About the role

As an Oncology Scheduling Specialist, you will apply your excellent customer service skills to schedule initial and follow-up appointments for cancer patients in a fast-paced environment. This role requires critical thinking and adaptability to manage high patient volumes while ensuring a positive experience for patients.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule medical appointments by coordinating patients, providers, facility resources, ancillary staff, records, referrals, authorizations, and payers.
  • Initiate and receive calls to/from patients, providers, provider offices, and facilities, following established scheduling procedures and protocols to ensure timely care.
  • Receive physician’s orders and schedule or reschedule appointments, tests, and procedures using electronic medical record/scheduling software systems.
  • Identify alternative scheduling solutions when patient preferences are unavailable, adhering to protocols and ensuring patient safety.
  • Provide patients with information, pre- and post-test instructions, appointment locations, and directions, answering questions within guidelines and referring to clinical staff as needed.
  • Communicate and build relationships with patients, facilities, providers, and clinical colleagues through phone, chat, email, and electronic medical record messaging to ensure an empathetic and solution-oriented experience.
  • Anticipate patient and provider needs and respond accordingly.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
  • Two years of scheduling experience in a physician’s office or hospital.
  • Proficiency with office software and medical practice management/scheduling software.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology may be required for some assignments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of ICD-9, CPT, and HCPCS coding.
  • Experience with various types of insurance plans and/or worker’s compensation.
  • Bilingual in Spanish may be preferred for some assignments.

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
