About the role
The MSL/Senior MSL serves as the local medical voice of AstraZeneca in the disease area of thoracic cancer, building a local medical strategy to improve patient care and outcomes in their territory. This field-based professional provides medical and scientific support for AstraZeneca's oncology marketed products, new indications for current products, and compounds in development.
Responsibilities
- Establish oneself as a trusted scientific advisor, peer, and expert for internal collaborators and external healthcare professionals (HCPs).
- Synthesize HCP insights from multiple segments within a region and communicate them to internal collaborators.
- Serve as a point of reference for integrating science into proposed business strategies, training, and resources.
- Synthesize and integrate research, summarizing findings in a compelling narrative for various HCP segments.
- Build strong collaboration with key stakeholders across Medical Affairs, Commercial, and Development.
- Drive guideline sharing within and outside the organization, applying them to Field Medical Affairs work processes.
- Lead clinical trials, research activities, and special projects.
- Coach team members to develop strong working relationships in diverse external business settings (e.g., academia, hospitals, managed markets, private practices).
- Support team members' creative and innovative ideas while recognizing contributions to team/project success.
- Provide input on MSL training content, assist with onboarding, and serve as a 'buddy' to new MSL hires.
- Lead MSLs in responsibilities for congress scientific coverage and data synthesis support.
Requirements
- Advanced scientific degree required (e.g., PharmD, MD/DO, PhD, PA, or NP) in a relevant health science or clinical discipline.
- 2 years of MSL experience or related therapeutic experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in delivering customer-related outcomes in a targeted field/territory.
- Ability to impact Medical Affairs and MSL strategies on a regional level.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively convey scientific data to internal and external customers.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a matrix environment.
- Demonstrated leadership, initiative, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong project management ability.
- Ability to travel 40-60% domestically by car and plane.
Qualifications
- Doctorate strongly preferred in a health science or clinical discipline.
- Oncology experience.
Pay
Annual base salary for this position ranges from $174,455 to $261,682. Base pay may vary depending on market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Positions also offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity and eligibility to participate in an equity-based long-term incentive program (for salaried roles).
