Oncology Infusion Pharmacist

About the role

Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a leader in life-changing breakthroughs in cancer research and patient care. The Infusion Pharmacist II oversees the preparation, compounding, order verification, and dispensing of pharmaceuticals—including oncology and sterile products—while ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and institutional regulations. This role focuses on optimizing drug therapy by identifying, resolving, and preventing drug-related problems and adverse drug events.

Responsibilities

• Practice in accordance with federal/state regulations, DFCI policies, and Joint Commission standards.
• Oversee daily operations and clinical activities of assigned pharmacy areas.
• Dispense pharmaceuticals, including sterile products, chemotherapy, biologics, controlled substances, and investigational medications.
• Evaluate medication orders for completeness and appropriateness; consult with providers and nurses to clarify orders as needed.
• Perform quality control on medication orders, prepared medications, and related activities (e.g., refrigerator temperature logs, compounding logs, hood cleaning, emergency carts, controlled substance inventory).
• Review and compare investigational protocols to medication orders for accuracy and compliance.
• Oversee and train pharmacy technicians and students.
• Participate in the training and orientation of newly hired pharmacists and technicians.
• Additional duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of Pharmacy.
• 3 years of hospital pharmacy, ambulatory care, or sterile compounding experience or 5 years of retail pharmacy experience with 2 years of oncology experience or completion of a PGY1 residency.
• Licensed to practice pharmacy in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; additional licensure may be required for satellite locations.

Special Working Conditions

• Routine exposure to chemotherapeutic agents, biologics, investigational drugs, gene therapy, and hazardous chemicals.
• Risk of needle sticks, cuts from sharp objects, and exposure to infectious materials.
• Rotating shifts required (no weekend/evening shifts).

Pay

$124,000.00 - $159,800.00
