About the role
The Oncology Financial Coordinator secures accurate financial approvals for oncology patients. This role analyzes and validates payer-specific benefits, estimates patient liability, and counsels patients on financial considerations throughout their care. The position collaborates with a multidisciplinary team including patients, revenue cycle staff, physicians, nurses, and pharmacists to mitigate financial risk for Intermountain Health.
Responsibilities
- Verify prescriber credentialing with the facility or Select Health, or confirm an active license in good standing.
- Ensure clinically appropriate documentation is received timely from medical providers/facilities and confirm medical necessity for services.
- Evaluate and confirm receipt of Letter of Medical Necessity to ensure third-party payment.
- Ensure orders include an appropriate ICD-10 code.
- Collaborate with clinicians and intake managers to minimize risk from medical necessity or financial sponsorship changes affecting reimbursement.
- Make corrections in the patient's record to prevent denials and billing/reimbursement issues.
- Obtain insurance eligibility and benefit information, complete authorization requirements within required timeframes, and maintain authorizations throughout patient treatment.
- Ensure ongoing eligibility based on clinical documentation for medical necessity and complete reauthorization functions timely per payer requirements.
- Estimate cost of service using ICD-10 or CPT codes and calculate patient responsibility using insurance benefit information.
- Analyze patient/guarantor's previous account history to guide financial conversations.
- Educate patients regarding Medicare ABN, potential non-coverage costs, and ramifications of not signing the form; send ABN to patient if necessary and communicate status to the Infusion Clinic.
Qualifications
- Experience as a Financial/Eligibility Counselor, health insurance-related experience (billing, authorizations, etc.), or Certificate in healthcare coding.
- Demonstrated customer service experience in a healthcare, insurance, or financial field.
- Outstanding public relations and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills; ability to multitask, complete work accurately and timely.
- Self-starter and team-oriented with flexibility to adapt to change; ability to work with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a healthcare field or business.
- Bilingual proficiency.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Pay
$20.35 - $30.97 per hour, dependent upon experience.
