Oncology Clinical Research Nurse - JS Hope Tower - F/T Days

About the role

The Clinical Research Nurse is responsible for coordinating and overseeing clinical research operations for all assigned clinical trials. They participate in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating compliant patient care in clinical research trials. This role requires a strong attention to detail, excellent communication, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and submits proposed clinical trials by reviewing protocols, contacting departments for resources, and notifying relevant parties.
• Affirms compliance with IRB requirements by submitting protocol revisions, informed consents, continuing reviews, and serious adverse events in a timely manner.
• Acts as a liaison between principal investigators and sub-investigators on regulatory issues and protocol changes.
• Collaborates with the principal investigator, clinical research coordinator, and clinical team to assess feasibility and evaluate competition with other protocols.
• Reviews budgets with the budget coordinator, finalizing drafts and ensuring they align with standard of care and research costs.
• Recruits and evaluates potential study patients, schedules appointments, and educates patients and caregivers on clinical trials, treatments, and side effects.
• Documents patient medical histories, performs nursing assessments, and tracks patient responses using flow sheets and progress notes.
• Maintains accurate records in various systems and coordinates research activities such as scheduling tests and communicating results.
• Notifies the principal investigator of adverse events and reports them to sponsors and the IRB according to established timelines.
• Coordinates research activities, prepares safety reports, and attends monitor site visits, resolving any issues found during these visits.
• Develops case report forms and databases for physician-initiated studies as needed and assists with data analysis.
• Attends research meetings and conferences, provides education to departments, and participates in staff meetings and in-service education.
• Performs other duties and projects as assigned, adhering to HMH organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; advanced degrees may substitute for BSN.
• Minimum of 3 years clinical nursing experience or 1 year of clinical nursing experience with 2 years of clinical research experience.
• Advanced masters degree in nursing programs may substitute for BSN.
• Strong attention to detail and customer service focus.
• Excellent communication, organizational, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
• Adherence to American Nurses Association standards and HMH and Business Unit policies and procedures.
