Cancer Registry Program and Analytics Work
Job Summary
Cancer is among the leading causes of death in the U.S. Health systems are mandated to collect data on cancer cases from diagnosis through survivorship in order to help identify trends, aid in research and ultimately improve treatment and care for patients diagnosed with cancer.
Responsibilities
- Review data for use by the Montefiore Cancer Program to ensure that data regarding incidence of cancer by primary site, trends, morphology, stage at diagnosis, survival rate, treatment modalities and other variables are of the highest quality for use in patient care research and education.
- Absorb and store data in the Cancer Registry database for submission to the National Cancer Database and New York State Cancer Registry for use in epidemiological research, public health program planning, and patient care improvement.
- Ensure that data abstracted is accurate and complete and meets the requirements of both NYS and National Cancer Data submission requirements.
- Understand case finding techniques, abstracting rules, morphology of the disease, staging criteria, treatment modalities, research protocols and survivorship requirements to provide meaningful data reporting and feedback to the Montefiore Cancer Program Committee and to prepare for Accreditation surveys.
- Collaborate with physician, nursing and other clinical staff on patient data accuracy, completeness, survey readiness and documentation requirements and provide guidance and coaching on cancer registry data and requirements as required.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Certification as a Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) as a Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) is required.
- Candidates for this position must have satisfactorily completed a course in Cancer Registry operations/abstraction including abstracting and Staging of cases, coding using ICD-O and other applicable classifications.
- 3 years of applicable experience preferred
- Candidates must demonstrate strong combination of education/knowledge/experience in use of Cancer Registry Operations and Standards Manual.
- Must demonstrate familiarity with practices and guidance of national standard setters such as: CoC, SEER, NAACCR, ICD-O, AJCC and other industry standards and methodologies.
- Knowledge of State and National regulations and guidelines for Cancer Registries, CoC accredited cancer programs and cancer reporting
- Familiarity with reviewing medical records in an electronic environment.
- Critical thinking and excellent communication and problem solving skills
- Knowledge of data manipulation and analysis preferred.
Benefits
Pay Range: $100,000.00-$125,000.00
Scheduled Hours: 8:30 AM-5 PM, Scheduled Daily Hours: 7.5 HOURS
