On-Campus Adjunct Instructor, Private Piano Lessons

About the role

The Adjunct Instructor for Private Piano Lessons provides individualized piano instruction to students pursuing studies in music and performance. The instructor assists students in developing technical proficiency, musicianship, interpretive skills, and artistic expression through one-on-one lessons. You will foster a supportive learning environment that encourages personal growth, confidence, and achievement while helping students meet program and course learning outcomes.

The following course is available to teach: MUS250 - Private Music Lessons.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality individual piano instruction to students at varying levels of vocal experience and proficiency.
• Assess student abilities and develop personalized instructional plans to support technical and musical growth.
• Recruit students to participate in private piano lessons by promoting the opportunity through campus outreach, student engagement, and collaboration with music faculty and program partners.
• Teach piano technique, sight-reading, music theory application, keyboard skills, repertoire interpretation, and performance practices.
• Guide students in repertoire selection appropriate to their skill level, musical interests, and educational goals.
• Prepare students for recitals, auditions, performances, juries, and other program requirements.
• Evaluate student progress and provide timely, constructive feedback.
• Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and assessment records in accordance with university policies.
• Communicate regularly with students regarding expectations, goals, and performance preparation.
• Encourage the development of effective practice habits, independent learning skills, and lifelong musicianship.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Piano Performance, Music, Music Education, Pedagogy, Collaborative Piano, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience as a pianist or private piano instructor.
• Knowledge of piano pedagogy, keyboard literature, and age-appropriate instructional methods.
• Ability to teach students with diverse musical backgrounds and experience levels.

Pay

The standard compensation for courses is $2,800 - $3,400 per 16-week undergraduate or graduate course. Due to the nature of this particular role, the pay will be $420 per student per semester. The actual offer will be based on experience, skills, degree, discipline, and other business and organizational needs.
