On-Call Sanitation and Safety Steward

About the role

Cleans and fills Dining Services equipment, maintains facility cleanliness, and performs other duties as described.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate dish room equipment including dish machines, pot washers, scraping stations, accumulator, ReuseMore containers, etc.
• Notify supervisor of malfunctioning equipment.
• Fills milk urns, ice bins, water coolers, and changes soda/beverage tanks as needed.
• Sweeps, scrubs, vacuums, and mops floors as needed or assigned.
• Cleans exhaust hoods, including filters, as necessary or assigned.
• Aids in infirmary cart operations.
• Aids in proper receiving and storage of food and non-food items.
• Aids in delivery, setup, and staffing of catered events.
• If assigned to the Spa, stocks beer and wine.
• Filters grease daily as assigned.
• Assists in bleaching dishes, burnishing silver, washing walls, ceilings, and baseboards.
• Interacts with customers in a courteous and friendly manner.
• Performs custodial-type work if assigned within dining halls and Spa.
• Performs extra duties in cleaning and food preparation as assigned by a supervisor.
• Speaks and listens effectively with supervisors, customers, and employees of the College.
• Maintains a demonstrated interest in learning new ideas.
• Speaks and listens effectively and respectfully with supervisors, customers, and employees of the College.
• Maintains an appropriate image and dress.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and procedure manuals.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Ability to utilize or learn basic computer functions.
• Attend Serv-Safe/HACCP course within one year of employment from classification date.

• Regularly stands, walks, sits, uses hands to finger, handle, or feel.
• Reaches/lifts with hands and arms.

• Exposure to chemicals used in the performance of duties.
• Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
• Moderate to loud noise level.

Additional Information

• May be required to attend employer-sponsored classes or seminars aimed at developing or improving skills.
• May be required to work overtime or weekends with minimal notice.
• Must understand and comply with New York State Health Codes in performance of duties.
• Pay: $20.72/hour.
• Work schedule will be nights and weekends.
