On-Call Host/Hostess
Job Description
A Host, or Greeter, is responsible for welcoming customers to a food service environment and ensuring they are seated and receive attentive service. Their duties include maintaining a waitlist of patrons during busy meal service, passing out menus and accepting phone calls.
Principle duties and responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Greeting guests as they enter, and putting them on a waiting list as necessary.
- Providing guests with menus and answering any initial questions.
- Serving as a host, seating guests at tables or in waiting areas.
- Assigning guests to tables they prefer, while keeping table rotation in mind so that servers receive the right number of customers.
- Engaging with guests to ensure they're happy with food and service.
- Responding to complaints and helping to resolve them.
- Answering phone calls, taking reservations and answering questions.
- Helping out with other positions in the restaurant as needed.
- Providing great customer service.
Qualification and Skills
- A high school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Ability to provide top-notch customer service in a fast-paced environment.
- A positive attitude and ability to work well under pressure with all restaurant staff.
- Able to work in a standing position for long periods of time.
- Able to safely lift and easily maneuver trays of food when necessary.
- Able to handle money accurately and operate a point-of-sale system.
- Able to work in a busy restaurant environment.
- Restaurant experience a plus.
Physical Demands
- Ability to reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
- Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period.
- Ability to move over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces.
- Ability to move up and down ladders, stairs, and service ramps.
- Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
- Ability to stand during entire shift.
Additional Job Information/Anticipated Pay Range
Expected Hours of Work: Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel. Must be flexible to work various days and various shifts of the week to include weekends, holidays, days, nights and overnight. Regular attendance in conformance with the standards which have been established by the hotel from time to time is essential to the successful performance of this position.
