On Call Field Archaeologists

About the role

WSP is searching for On Call Field Archaeologists for multiple potential projects throughout the southwest, Midwest, and southeast regions. The successful candidate will provide local technical assistance for the collection, identification, and compiling of artifacts, observational, and spatial data concerning a variety of archaeological and historical sciences.

Under general supervision, the On Call Field Archaeologist will assist with collecting, identifying, and compiling artifacts, observational, spatial, and archaeological data from field sites for projects, investigations, and surveys. They will maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurement and documentation, and assist with performing basic professional archaeological work relating to cultural resources.

Responsibilities

• Assist with collecting, identifying, and compiling artifacts, observational, spatial, and archaeological data from field sites for projects, investigations, and surveys
• Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurement and documentation
• Assist with performing basic professional archaeological work relating to cultural resources
• Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and field/work site notebook
• Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures
• Utilize the latest archaeological methods, procedures, technologies, and techniques in performing studies and analysis of sites and potential impacts to resources of cultural and scientific significance
• Complete training on assigned tasks
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree in anthropology/archaeology or a closely related field
• Archaeological field school or similar archaeological field experience
• 5-7 years of archaeological or anthropology related experience
• Experience leading field crews for Phase I/Class III pedestrian survey and shovel testing
• Archaeological monitoring experience is a plus
• Previous experience with linear infrastructure Projects (i.e pipelines) is a plus
• Self-motivated, physically able to conduct all aspects of fieldwork in all weather conditions, and be able to follow instructions
• Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience
• Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment
• Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives
• Basic proficiency with business writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
• Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek
• Ability and willingness to travel to project sites

Qualifications

• Prior experience with archaeological sites in Colorado and the surrounding region
• Pre-Contact lithic artifact identification and analysis
• Post-Contact artifact analysis

Pay

Expected Salary (Colorado Only): $34.86 - $49.86
