On Call Early Career Archaeological Field Technician

About the Role

WSP USA Inc. is seeking 10 to 15 Archaeological Field Technicians for on-call, hourly fieldwork on multiple archaeological projects in Nevada, Oregon, and Utah. These positions are project-based with imminent work opportunities. Single occupancy hotel rooms and per diem are provided.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support using anthropological and archaeological field techniques for locating, testing, recording, mapping, and evaluating archaeological sites.
• Conduct pedestrian surveys and shovel test surveys to support field surveys.
• Use topographic maps, aerial photographs, and ESRI Arc Field Maps GPS data collection software for survey work.
• Work long hours in difficult, remote environments and varying weather conditions.
• Collaborate effectively with diverse teams, maintain a positive attitude, and work independently as needed.
• Plan and execute personal assignments with minimal instruction.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related discipline.
• One (1) year minimum of archaeological field experience.
• Previous CRM field experience or academic archaeological field school.
• Knowledge of equipment, technology, and paperwork used in recording and documenting archaeological sites and artifacts.
• Ability to learn about local cultural history and material culture in project areas.
• Ability to work independently and plan/execute assignments with minimal instruction.
• Knowledge of health and safety standards.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to work long hours in harsh environments and varying weather conditions.
• Effective and respectful communication with team members.
• Must pass a drug test and maintain a drug-free work environment.
• Must pass a background check and successfully complete WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in utility transmission, pipeline, and petrochemical exploration projects.
• Experience with both block and linear surveys.
• CPR/First Aid certifications and experience.
• Archaeological monitoring experience.

Pay

Expected hourly salary range: $23.00 - $35.00, based on education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and geographic location.
