On Call Early Career Archaeological Field Technician

About the Role

WSP USA Inc., one of the nation’s strongest energy-related engineering and environmental consultants, is seeking 10 to 15 Archaeological Field Technicians for on-call, hourly fieldwork on multiple archaeological projects in Nevada, Oregon, and Utah. Work is imminent and will be project-based. Projects may involve extended periods of fieldwork in remote areas, with single occupancy hotel rooms and per diem provided as standard.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support using a basic understanding of anthropological and archaeological field techniques for locating, testing, recording, mapping, and evaluating archaeological sites.
• Support field surveys through pedestrian surveys and shovel test surveys.
• Use topographic maps, aerial photographs, and ESRI Arc Field Maps GPS data collection software to conduct survey work.
• Work long hours in difficult or remote environments and in varying weather conditions.
• Collaborate effectively with groups composed of diverse personalities.
• Maintain a positive attitude, accept direction, and work independently when needed.
• Plan and execute personal assignments with minimal instruction.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related discipline.
• One (1) year minimum of archaeological field experience.
• Previous CRM field experience or academic archaeological field school.
• Knowledge and understanding of equipment, technology, and paperwork used in the recording and documenting of archaeological sites and artifacts.
• Ability to learn about local cultural history and material culture in project areas.
• Ability to work independently and fully plan and execute personal assignments with minimal instruction.
• Knowledge of health and safety standards.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to work long hours in harsh environments and in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to effectively and respectfully communicate with team members.
• Must pass a drug test and maintain a drug-free work environment.
• Must pass a background check and successfully complete WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in utility transmission, pipeline, and petrochemical exploration projects.
• Experience with both block and linear surveys.
• CPR/First Aid certifications and experience.
• Archaeological monitoring experience.

Pay

Expected hourly pay range (all locations): $23.00 - $35.00, based on education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and internal equity.
