Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provides transportation for Ponca Tribe of Nebraska members and the public, including persons with disabilities, in a cheerful, pleasant, and professional manner.
  • Operates vehicles, wheelchair lifts/securements, computers, cell phones, scheduling software, and other equipment as necessary.
  • Affords assistance to passengers entering and exiting the vehicle.
  • Maintains a clean and presentable vehicle according to policy or supervisor’s direction.
  • Keeps accurate monthly records and reports.
  • Collaborates closely with Ponca Tribe of Nebraska staff to fulfill transportation needs.
  • Follows a pre-planned route and adheres to a time schedule.
  • Monitors passenger arrivals and departures using transportation software.
  • Collects fares for each transport as required and maintains proper record-keeping.
  • Learns and implements new procedures, regulations, and requirements continuously.
  • Operates vehicles safely in adverse weather conditions.
  • Inspects vehicles daily at the start of work.
  • Maintains or attains CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Completes Passenger and Safety Securement, Defensive Driving, Distracted Driving, and Drug & Alcohol Awareness courses.
  • Complies with the drug and alcohol policy and testing requirements.
  • Respects the mission, organization, program requirements, and policies of the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska.
  • Maintains complete confidentiality and honors the Privacy Act.
  • Abides by transportation laws, rules, and regulations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Able to obtain First Aid, CPR, and Defensive Driving Course certification within one year, if not already certified.
  • Excellent oral communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and insurability.
  • Passes drug and alcohol testing, motor vehicle, education, character, and criminal background checks.
  • Able and willing to travel.
  • Preferred: Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • One year experience working with Native Americans or Native American organizations.
