About the role
The position involves managing day-to-day laboratory operations, working with and installing scientific equipment, developing and collaborating on routine projects and procedures, managing inventory and equipment, and performing budget functions.
Responsibilities
- Independently perform clinical testing in accordance with established SOPs.
- Process all clinical, QC and PT specimens through clinical workflow.
- Demonstrate high-level problem-solving skills and analytical abilities to successfully perform laboratory testing.
- Accurately record relevant data and values in case folders and internal databases.
- Maintain proficiency in LIMS for comprehensive sample tracking and workflow documentation.
- Operate, perform routine maintenance on, and calibrate all laboratory equipment as required.
- Identify problems with instrumentation, methodology, specimens, and/or supplies and follow-up according to established protocols.
- Identify critical, abnormal and/or unacceptable results and follow-up according to established protocol.
- Document all corrective action and follow-up with lead and/or supervisor.
- Effectively communicate with other laboratory members including lab leadership.
- Maintain track of technical and professional development, including but not limited to attendance at seminars/webinars and participation in educational programs and activities.
- Adhere to established laboratory and hospital policies and good clinical laboratory practice in areas of procedures, quality control, quality assurance and safety and compliance.
- Assist in research projects, new assay development and/or document control review as requested.
- Train new lab members.
- Maintain supply inventory and order new supplies when needed.
- Help with instrument maintenance / PM.
- Demonstrate excellent organizational skills and time management to process large batches of samples efficiently while maintaining accuracy and compliance under strict turnaround-time requirements.
- Contribute to cross-platform QA/QC efforts, ensuring harmonization of standards across genomics, proteomics.
Requirements
- Experience in genomic sequencing, metagenomics, and RNA sequencing.
- High-level problem-solving skills and analytical abilities.
- Excellent organizational skills and time management.
- Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift up to 30 pounds, read small print, and work under standard lighting conditions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
Skills
- Proficiency in molecular biology techniques.
- Ability to operate automated and/or liquid handling machines.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to adhere to laboratory and hospital policies and good clinical laboratory practice.
