OHST Advisor
About the role
The OHST Advisor role is critical to maintaining a safe and healthy working environment at the Pogo operation. This position requires a proactive individual with extensive experience in the mechanized hard rock mining industry.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain safety and health standards in compliance with company, OSHA, MSHA regulations and appropriate risk procedures
- Ensure a high standard of record keeping and monitor workplace safety through regular inspections
- Conduct regular safety and equipment inspections and inform supervisors of unsafe practices, conditions, and possible safety and health hazards
- Prepare and submit reports to management regarding industrial health performance and highlight problem areas
- Cookordination with and accompanying inspectors as they audit the operation from a safety and health perspective
- Maintain a close relationship with governmental regulatory agencies
- Implement and ensure compliance with new rules and regulations
- Respond to site emergencies as part of the Emergency Management Team
- Plan, organize, direct and administer hazardous materials response, rescue and other emergency services
Requirements
- MSHA Instructor Certification
- Trained as an Emergency Response Team member
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
- Five Years progressive relevant work experience required
- Experience in the mechanized hard rock mining industry
- MSHA approved instructor card for IU IS, MM
- Advanced knowledge of principles and practices of occupational safety and health administration programs and of governing rules and regulations
- Two years college coursework in health and safety or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Ability to work unsupervised and display good problem-solving skills
- Valid Driver's License required
- Good communication skills
- Must have good comprehension of safe operating procedures, safety rules, policies, emergency procedures, and MSHA requirements
Qualifications
- Pass a post-offer physical and drug test
- Pass a background check

Schedule
Working a 21 days on 14 days off rotating schedule of days and nights, 12 hours a day or more at a remote campsite. Extreme conditions, including but not limited to extreme and changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area. Employees are required to stay on site at the company provided camp during the work rotation.
