About the role
We are seeking a motivated and personable student intern interested in behavioral health and community engagement. This role provides hands-on experience in care coordination, patient and family outreach, and service planning.
Responsibilities
- Shadow and support Care Coordinators in delivering services to children and families through the OhioRise program
- Aid with care coordination activities including service planning, referrals, and follow-up with community providers
- Support outreach and engagement efforts with clients, families, and community partners
- Participate in team meetings, case reviews, and High Fidelity Wraparound processes to gain real-world experience
- Observe and assist with documentation practices in accordance with agency and compliance standards
- Help identify and connect families to appropriate community resources and supports
- Participate in trainings related to trauma-informed care, cultural competency, and behavioral health best practices
- Observe and appropriately escalate urgent or crisis situations under supervision
- Support discharge planning and transition activities as appropriate
- Maintain a professional, positive, and team-oriented approach in all interactions
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field
- Interest in behavioral health, care coordination, and working with children and families
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build rapport with diverse populations
- Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and appropriate boundaries in a clinical setting
- Willingness to learn, take initiative, and receive feedback in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Basic computer skills and comfort with documentation in electronic systems
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel locally as needed
Learning Objectives
- Develop a foundational understanding of care coordination within a community-based behavioral health setting
- Gain exposure to the High Fidelity Wraparound model and how it supports children and families with complex needs
- Build skills in professional communication with clients, families, and interdisciplinary teams
- Learn how to identify community resources and connect individuals to appropriate services and supports
- Understand documentation standards, confidentiality requirements, and ethical considerations in behavioral health
- Increase awareness of trauma-informed care, cultural competency, and person-centered approaches
- Observe how care teams assess needs, develop service plans, and monitor progress over time
- Strengthen problem-solving and critical thinking skills in real-world situations
- Develop professional readiness skills including time management, adaptability, and teamwork
