Officer

Non-exempt, regular full-time in-person position. Weekend work (Saturday and Sunday) is required; days off will be scheduled on weekdays. Supervised by the First Sergeant.

About the role

Patrols buildings and grounds, responds to emergencies, and performs related duties designed to promote and ensure a safe and secure environment for all campus and community members.

Responsibilities

• Patrol campus premises on foot or vehicle to ensure the safety and security of students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
• Identify and respond to potential security threats, suspicious activities, and safety hazards.
• Monitor access to campus buildings and facilities; ensure only authorized individuals enter restricted areas.
• Direct traffic during peak hours, special events, or emergencies to ensure smooth flow and pedestrian safety.
• Respond promptly to emergency calls, provide first aid or assistance as needed, and coordinate with other emergency responders.
• Enforce campus policies and address violations such as trespassing, vandalism, and theft.
• Conduct security checks on buildings and facilities.
• Collect evidence, interview witnesses, and file detailed reports for further action by campus authorities or law enforcement.
• Attend safety workshops, training sessions, and awareness programs related to personal safety, fire safety, and active shooter preparedness.
• Maintain clear and constant communication with other Campus Safety members, campus staff, and local law enforcement to coordinate responses to incidents effectively.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent and one year of experience in a related field. Associate’s degree in a related field may substitute for work experience.
• Valid NYS driver's license.
• Current New York State Security Guard registration certification.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs., walk and stand for extended periods, and climb stairs.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and evenings.
• Demonstrated conscientiousness related to safety and ability to follow procedures.
• Ability to exercise exceptional judgment, ensure strict confidentiality, and demonstrate outstanding professionalism in a range of situations.

Pay

$18.66 per hour.

• Shift: 11:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
• Hours per week: 40
• Weeks per year: 52
