OFFICE SUPPORT ASSISTANT (TEMPORARY SERVICES REGISTRY PROGRAM) (Non-Competitive)

About the role
The Temporary Services Registry Program supports the Board of Supervisor's Local and Target Worker Hire Policy, utilizing local residents served by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act and Workforce Development Board Programs. This includes Veterans and their families, current or former foster youth, people experiencing homelessness, low-income individuals, those with a history of involvement with the criminal justice system, and those without a high school diploma or GED.
Registry employees assist County Departments with clerical and office support during workload peaks or when additional support is needed. Assignment lengths vary, and program participation is limited to two years.
Responsibilities
- Process requests for supplies, service orders, invoices, timesheets, and routine reports annually or using electronic systems.
- Maintain documents, records, and logs by sorting, filing, photocopying, searching, verifying, and tracking information.
- Provide information and referrals by answering routine questions and routing inquiries to the appropriate office.
- Perform data entry to update and record statistical information.
- Perform mathematical computations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Maintain inventory and prepare supply requisitions as needed.
- Arrange meetings by coordinating calendars, distributing agenda materials, and reserving conference rooms.
- Operate office equipment such as computers, 10-key adding machines, typewriters, facsimile machines, photocopiers, and postage meters.
Requirements
- A certificate of completion from one of the following Los Angeles County Job Services or Work Readiness Job Training Programs:
- Department of Economic Opportunity Work Readiness Job Program (e.g., Careers for a Cause (C4C) Program, America's Job Center of California (AJCC))
- Department of Mental Health’s South Bay Mental Health Center Job or Work Readiness Training Program (e.g., Service Area (SA) - 4 Peer Resource Center Work Readiness Training)
- Department of Public Social Services GAIN or GROW Job Readiness Training Programs (e.g., Focus 360 (formerly GAIN Job Club/Flex Job Club), Blueprint for Workplace Success Programs, Cell-ED Certificate (formerly GROW))
- Department of Workforce Development, Aging and Community Services Job or Work Readiness Training Program
- Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) Job or Work Readiness Training Program (e.g., START Job Readiness Training (formerly GROW), GAIN Job Readiness Training)
- Required certification must be completed at the time of filing. No withhold of information is allowed.
- A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation for job-related essential functions.
Qualifications
Physical Class II – Light: This role includes administrative and clerical tasks requiring light physical effort, such as occasional light lifting (up to 10 pounds) and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

This examination consists of a multiple-choice and/or simulation assessment(s), weighted 100%, measuring:

A score of 70% or higher is required to proceed. This is a noncompetitive examination; candidates who pass will be placed on the list without relative standing. Veterans entitled to credit will be placed ahead of non-veterans.
You will also complete a Life Experiences assessment for research purposes only; responses will not affect your score.
