About the role
Facilitates the patient's access into the Radiology system by providing registration and check-in services, including:
- Securing accurate The Joint Commission-approved patient demographics, identification, authorization of services, and insurance information for registration purposes for all scheduled and non-scheduled patients.
- Securing completed and signed written radiology orders, entering and scheduling orders into EPIC, verifying demographic and financial data, and electronic filing of documents into OnBase.
- Ensuring basic ICD-9 coding is relevant to the signs and symptoms for the diagnosis reflected on the request for service.
- Following Federal Regulations (e.g., HIPAA and Medical Necessity) to maintain legal compliance.
- Protecting the fiscal interest of the enterprise by checking for medical necessity according to carrier guidelines and assisting with securing waivers (e.g., ABN) from patients when necessary.
- Scheduling, canceling, and rescheduling patient appointments while maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Assisting the Financial Specialist with 'Point of Service' collections to satisfy patient financial obligations and increase reimbursement for the organization.
- Providing support for Radiology Technologists and other technical and clerical staff within the hospital system and the community.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent is required; continuing education beyond high school preferred.
- Minimum two (2) years of clerical experience or customer service, with at least one (1) year in a healthcare environment preferred.
- A two-year degree may substitute for one year of clerical or hospital/medical practice experience.
- Professional customer service skills in person and via telephone, strong communication skills, and PC/keyboard proficiency required.
- Familiarity with ICD-10 and CPT codes, medical terminology, EPIC, Biscom, OnBase, and insurance terms preferred.
- Excellent critical thinking, attention to detail, and ability to work under hectic or stressful conditions.
- Comfortable requesting and providing information to clinics, physicians, patients, and technical/clinical staff.
- Ability to multi-task, organize, prioritize responsibilities, problem-solve, and function in a team environment.
Motor Vehicle Operator Designation: Employees in this position will not operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose.
