About the role

Facilitates patient access to Radiology services by providing accurate and efficient registration, scheduling, and check-in services for both scheduled and non-scheduled patients. Ensures a positive patient experience while maintaining compliance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and patient confidentiality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and verify accurate patient demographic, identification, insurance, and authorization information in accordance with organizational and The Joint Commission standards.
  • Review and process written radiology orders, ensuring orders are complete and properly authorized.
  • Enter and schedule radiology orders and appointments in EPIC, including scheduling, cancellations, and rescheduling as needed.
  • Verify demographic and financial information and electronically file required documentation in OnBase.
  • Review diagnosis information and ensure appropriate ICD coding is relevant to the signs and symptoms documented on the request for service.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable federal regulations, including HIPAA and medical necessity requirements.
  • Verify medical necessity according to insurance carrier guidelines and assist Financial Specialists with obtaining required patient waivers, including ABNs, when applicable.
  • Assist with point-of-service collections by supporting Financial Specialists in collecting patient financial responsibilities and helping maximize reimbursement for the organization.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and safeguard protected health information at all times.
  • Provide professional and courteous support to patients, Radiology Technologists, physicians, clinical staff, and other hospital and community healthcare personnel.
  • Collaborate effectively with technical and clerical staff to ensure efficient patient flow and timely access to Radiology services.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the operations of the Radiology department.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Post-secondary education or continuing education beyond high school is preferred.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of clerical or customer service experience is required, with at least one (1) year of experience in a healthcare environment preferred.
  • A two-year degree may substitute for one year of required clerical, hospital, or medical practice experience.

Skills

  • Demonstrated professionalism, courtesy, and patience when interacting with patients, customers, physicians, clinics, and clinical/technical staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively in person and by telephone.
  • Proficiency with computers and keyboarding.
  • Strong critical-thinking, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, manage competing demands, and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to confidently request, obtain, and provide information to patients, clinics, physicians, and healthcare staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy, ICD-10, and CPT codes.
  • Knowledge of insurance terminology and processes.
  • Experience with EPIC, Biscom, and OnBase systems.
