About the role

The Southwest Florida Water Management District (District) is a government agency dedicated to protecting water resources, minimizing flood risks, and ensuring public water needs are met. Serving a population of nearly 6 million people in west-central Florida, the District oversees its territory through state law.

Responsibilities

  • Audit activities, including evaluating information for reliability and validity.
  • Support investigative work by gathering, reviewing, and analyzing data to identify issues or inconsistencies.
  • Participate in policy review by assessing rules, policies, and procedures for impact and effectiveness.
  • Contribute to performance evaluations within a government oversight environment.
  • Apply strong problem-solving and communication skills to develop creative and practical solutions.
  • Utilize Microsoft Excel and Word to support documentation, analysis, and reporting tasks.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent)
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 for undergraduate students or minimum GPA of 3.0 for graduate students
  • Valid driver’s license

Qualifications

  • Preferred Degrees: Accounting
  • Preferred Degree Level: Undergraduate or Graduate

Skills

Strong problem-solving and communication skills, creativity in developing solutions, proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.

Pay

$14.00 hourly

Schedule

Typically scheduled to work no more than 25 hours per week, between Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, out of the Brooksville or Tampa, FL office. Schedule is contingent upon the decision of the hiring manager and the successful candidate.

Travel

Yes. Some travel, using District vehicle, within District's coverage area.

About Us

The District is responsible for managing the water resources for west central Florida which includes approximately 10,000 square miles of territory spanning 16 counties and serving more than 6 million residents. Established in 1961 as a flood-protection agency, our objective is to meet the needs of current and future water users, protect and preserve our water resources, manage the water supply, protect water quality, and preserve water-related functions.

Applicants who are within 30 days of graduation, if selected are not allowed to start until all minimum qualifications are met.
