VOALA provides a variety of social services to Los Angeles area communities such as Head Start programs, Upward Bound college prep programs, veterans’ services, homeless shelters, low-income housing programs, as well as drug and alcohol rehabilitation.
Pay
$18.29 - $19.25 per hour

About the Role
The Office Assistant provides general basic office support and acts as the office receptionist and telephone screener when required. Establishes and maintains cooperative and harmonious working relationships with VOALA and Program staff, workers, business agencies, office vendors, and the general public.
Responsibilities
- Perform general office duties such as identifying and organizing documents for electronic archiving, photocopying, validating referrals, and email communications.
- Answer phones and take messages.
- Destruction of documents by shredding.
- Compute, record, and/or proofread data and other information, as directed.
- Compile worker and client information and prepare forms and maintain records as needed.
- Limited data entry from compiled information/records.
- Assist payroll audits as needed.
- General filing, administrative assistance to staff, typing, and preparing worker records.
- Restock supplies.
- Serve as receptionist for the office.
- Other duties as assigned and may be subject to change.
An essential function of this position requires incumbents to report to the office.
Essential Abilities
Ability to work and deal with difficult, uncooperative, and potentially aggressive clients, as VOALA serves the neediest individuals in our programs, which may include clients with homelessness, mental illness, substance abuse, recently released from incarceration, and other challenges.
As service providers to the underprivileged and vulnerable in our community, all employees are considered Mandated Reporters and must report any instance of physical or sexual abuse to proper authorities.
Requirements
- Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment, and education verifications.
- Ability to perform under circumstances of possible emotional stress and conflicts dealing with difficult, uncooperative, and potentially aggressive clients.
Qualifications
- Education: High School diploma or GED and some general office/admin coursework.
- Experience: 6 months of office and clerical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (written and verbal).
