Description Duties
As an Office Assistant 2 Stores/Mail within the Business Administration office, you would perform the following duties, not limited to:
- Receive, pick up, deliver, open, appropriately record, time stamp, sort, and distribute mail, e-mail, or other forms of correspondence or communication, or goods, materials, or stores.
- Maintain files, correspondence, documents, records, materials, and stores pursuant to guidelines.
- Maintain various listings for mail service purposes.
- Process outgoing mail by inserting letters into envelopes, sealing envelopes, and applying correct postage.
- May operate a motor vehicle to pick up and deliver mail.
- May require the ability to routinely lift and/or carry heavy items and the ability to routinely reach, bend, stand, and walk for long periods of time.
Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications:
- This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide program (NY HELPS).
- For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, if they meet the below NY HELPS minimum qualifications.
- NY HELPS Non-Competitive Minimum Qualifications: One year of experience where most work time is spent performing activities related to mail receipt, mail distribution, storage, and/or stores keeping. or New York State Department of Labor employee with one year of permanent competitive service as an Office Assistant 1 Stores and Mail.
- It is expected that employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status in the future, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.

- Competitive Minimum Qualifications:

- As this position requires travel, the appointee must have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State and have a motor vehicle or otherwise demonstrate their capacity to meet the transportation needs of the position.
- Subsequent 55 B/C Qualifications:
- A subsequent 55b/c appointment may be considered if you have one year of permanent or contingent-permanent service in an Office Assistant 1 and have a current Civil Service 55b/c approval letter.
- Reassignment Qualifications:
- Current Department of Labor employees only, with at least one year of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55b/c service in a/an Office Assistant 2 Stores/Mail); if you have less than one year, you must be reachable on the current Office Assistant 2 Stores/Mail eligible list for this location, if one exists.
Additional Comments
Position specific job duties may include occasional altered work schedule or job assignments which require availability and willingness to work occasional evenings and/or out-stationed assignments. Candidates with no previous state service will begin at the starting rate of the salary range listed above.
