About the role
This is a Work Study position with an off-campus agency for Fall 2026. Several positions are available within the agency:
- Safe Places Program Staff
- Kids Zone Staff
- Member Experience Associate
Safe Places Program Staff
Responsibilities
- Ensure the safety and engagement of children in the program
- Provide homework support and encourage academic progress
- Follow program lesson plans and implementation plans developmentally appropriately
- Meet participants’ physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs
- Provide careful, attentive supervision and remain alert
- Serve as a positive role model; demonstrate professional behavior and understand positive youth development approaches
- Facilitate a program environment that invites exploration, promotes positive play, and welcomes children
- Promote a team concept through positive supervision, communication, and interactions
- Maintain ongoing communication with supervisor
- Maintain accurate records for attendance and meal counts
- Ensure program participants receive proper snacks and meals
- Utilize C.A.T.C.H curriculum in programming and activities
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of agency’s mission, purpose, and goals; Safe Places policies and agency standards
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as required
- Assist in clean-up duties to ensure the program area is safe and clean
- Comply with all emergency procedures appropriate to the site
- Maintain all supplies, equipment, and materials; inform the Site Director when new/additional supplies are needed
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with children
- Attend required abuse risk management training
- Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising children
- Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations
- Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements
- Perform other duties as assigned
Kids Zone Staff
Responsibilities
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all children in the Kids Zone at all times
- Maintain active supervision and presence throughout the space
- Follow all agency child protection policies, including proper check-in/check-out procedures and only releasing children to authorized adults
- Create and implement daily schedules of structured and free-play activities
- Lead games, crafts, storytelling, and other interactive programming
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all children
- Verify agency memberships and check in participants using the designated system
- Maintain accurate attendance and sign-in/out records
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians
- Be knowledgeable of and follow all emergency procedures
- Respond calmly and appropriately to incidents and emergencies
- Clean and sanitize toys, equipment, and surfaces regularly
- Maintain a tidy and organized environment throughout the shift
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with children
- Attend required abuse risk management training
- Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations
- Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements
- Adhere to job-specific abuse risk management responsibilities
- Ensure unused rooms and closets remain locked; routinely monitor high-risk locations (locker-rooms and bathrooms)
- Ensure children are properly signed in and signed out; ensure only authorized adults are allowed in the facility
- Must be able to bend, crawl, climb, and move without limitations
- Must be able to push, pull, or lift a minimum of 15 lbs
- Must be able to stand or sit for extended periods of time
Member Experience Associate
Responsibilities
- Engage people in ways that welcome, connect, support, and invite
- Welcome, greet, and check in all members and guests; acknowledge those exiting the facility
- Receive telephone calls and provide membership and program information
- Be knowledgeable and communicate with members and guests regarding program information, membership policies and procedures, and building schedules
- Process new and renewal membership payments; register members and participants for all classes and programs; update member information
- Monitor the behavior of members and guests to ensure their safety; communicate with emergency dispatchers during an emergency and provide first aid as requested
- Model, reinforce, and abide by the agency’s core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility and the agency’s Code of Conduct
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all membership information
- Perform daily closeout and cash balance of money received during the shift; balance the cash drawer
- Monitor the coffee station; prepare and serve coffee as needed
- Keep the membership area and lobby area organized, clean, and functional
- Participate as requested with the annual Partner with Youth Campaign
- Attend all staff meetings and training as required
- Adhere to all agency policies (including the appearance policy), procedures, rules, regulations, and best practices
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with children
- Attend required abuse risk management training
- Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations
- Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements
- Adhere to job-specific abuse risk management responsibilities
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Must be eligible for Work Study Fall 2026
- Valid Michigan’s Driver’s License
- Successfully pass a background screening
Safe Places Program Staff
Qualifications
- Ability to make sound decisions and follow all risk management protocols
- Designed for undergraduate students interested in pursuing a career in museums
Kids Zone Staff
Qualifications
- CPR, AED, and First Aid certification (must be obtained within 30 days of hire)
Member Experience Associate
Qualifications
- A desire to connect with others, show responsibility, engage effectively, and care about the agency’s cause
- Proficient with technology, including Word, Excel, and Membership software
Skills
