Occupational Therapy Assistant Program Adjunct Faculty (Part-Time)
Job Description
Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System, a statewide system of community colleges. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board. Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400 enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses. Virginia Western, located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Roanoke Valley, is accepting applications for Adjunct Faculty for our Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) Program in the School of Health Professions.
Responsibilities
- Assist with delivering face-to-face curricular content to OTA students.
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
- May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
Qualifications
- Candidates must be a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT) or Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) with current Virginia OT or OTA license or eligible for licensure in the state of Virginia.
- Candidates must also be able to demonstrate contemporary expertise in their assigned subject areas and student advisement, including knowledge of resources for student well-being, as demonstrated by their curriculum vitae (CV).
- Candidates with all clinical backgrounds and area of expertise are encouraged to submit an application as adjunct needs will likely change each semester.
- Adequate clinical experience is required, including experience working with clients with physical disabilities (including pediatric, youth, and adult populations), experience working in pediatric clinical settings, experience treating patients with developmental disabilities, experience with assistive technologies and devices, experience working with clients with mental and behavioral health needs, experience working with the older adult population, rehabilitation management experience, and knowledge of foundational concepts in occupational therapy.
Additional Considerations
- Prior teaching experience in an occupational therapy assistant/occupational therapy academic program.
- Knowledge of curriculum design, application of principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice concepts and in-person content delivery.
- Experience using technology in the classroom.
- Experience teaching in a college setting.
- Three years post-licensure clinical experience.
