About the Role
Brookline College is seeking a per diem Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) or Occupational Therapist (OT) to join our faculty team in Phoenix, AZ, for a hybrid program. This role focuses on delivering career-focused education to prepare students for meaningful careers in healthcare. No prior teaching experience is required, though it is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Distance Education/Instruction:
- Maintain a teaching load per semester as assigned.
- Demonstrate subject matter expertise, including in online courses.
- Apply established teaching criteria, procedures, and curriculum to support student learning.
- Utilize various distance education methodologies to drive continuous quality improvement.
- Use the Learning Management System (LMS) to deliver course content and provide formative feedback.
- Ensure appropriate curriculum design and partner with the program director to improve distance education environments.
- Learner Retention:
- Monitor and track student retention using course attendance records.
- Implement data-driven strategies to improve student retention and achieve course benchmarks.
- Collaborate with the program director to enhance instructional design.
- Promote Excellence in Teaching:
- Remain proficient in course content, learning outcomes, and assessment activities.
- Teach assigned courses within the maximum allowed contact hours.
- Continuously improve instruction quality by reviewing and utilizing different teaching techniques, including distance education.
- Assist in planning, developing, and maintaining program curriculum.
- Evaluate student progress and communicate it promptly.
- Submit required program reports and forms on time.
- Maintain continuing education (CE) hours for OT or COTA licensure renewal.
- Maintain student records, including attendance and skill competency documents.
- Partner with the program director to resolve student appeals.
- Attend faculty meetings as determined by the program director.
- Engage in professional development and in-service training for LMS, pedagogy, and teaching methodologies.
- Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, and the community.
- Ensure compliance with college policies, program handbooks, and department directives.
- Balance the needs of a diverse student population.
- Student Retention Management:
- Foster an inclusive environment that promotes respect for diversity.
- Use data-informed strategies to manage student retention and meet accreditor benchmarks.
- Participate in local student retention initiatives.
- Manage communication processes to identify and support at-risk students.
- Customer Service:
- Demonstrate sensitivity and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
Requirements
- Education:
- Graduation from an accredited program recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in the specialty field or content area of teaching, or
- Graduation from a recognized training entity (e.g., hospital-based program) in the specialty field or content area of teaching, or
- Graduation from an institution outside the U.S. in the specialty field or content area of teaching (transcript evaluation required by NACES or AICE).
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an institution accredited by a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accrediting agency.
- Current Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) or Occupational Therapist (OT) licensure in Arizona.
- Three (3) years of practical experience in the assigned occupational therapy assistant program content.
- Documented expertise in teaching responsibility, content delivery, and teaching methodology.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using CampusVue.
- Experience using the Canvas™ learning management system (LMS).
