Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of clients using evidence-based/person centered principles to develop, implement and coordinate an occupational therapy program.
  • Provide screening, evaluation and treatment to clients to assist them in gaining functional skills.
  • Select the activities most appropriate to the client.
  • Service provisions may include direct, monitored and consultative approaches.
  • Resolve problems that arise in the treatment program independently.
  • Maintain a caseload of 75% productivity providing OT services to clients.
  • Document therapy services accurately and timely in accordance with facility and Federal Regulations (i.e. daily service notes, assessments, treatment plans and doctor orders for services, communications, client information, reporting parent and Partners communications and client information and etc.).
  • Coordinate and complete client assessments, track due dates for P/A and new treatment plans.
  • Complete the required technical training and participate in ongoing training opportunities.
  • Redirect, intervene, observe, and monitor client behaviors.
  • Communicate effectively with all staff members.
  • Make sound decisions and use good judgment when dealing with clients, parents, and coworkers.
  • Demonstrate dependability and consistency in therapy and other job related activities.
  • Communicate daily progress and client concerns to the appropriate staff members.
  • Communicate and work with all members of the treatment team and share information with team members in formal and informal settings, i.e. Rehab rounds.
  • Organize and clean therapy space and equipment.
  • Aid in keeping the facility safe, organized, sanitary, and guide others to do the same.
  • Conduct various assessments as deemed appropriate.
  • Guide treatment team on how to properly implement and carryover OT goals in the PODS.
  • Assist clients with personal care including: dressing, toileting, personal hygiene, food, nutrition, and diet needs.
  • Attend and participate in meetings.
  • Report all safety concerns to the Safety Director or his/her direct supervisor.
  • Provide leadership and clinical supervision to COTA/L’s providing direct OT treatment.
  • Directly provide therapy through various activities.
  • Formally and informally mentor newly hired staff.
  • Promote the OT role to parents and Partners staff.
  • Provide in-service trainings to staff as directed or requested.
  • Aid in interviewing and selecting applicants for hire in the OT Department.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited Occupational Therapy program.
  • OTR/L Certification from NBCOT or AOTA as well as title licensure from Minnesota and/or Wisconsin Department of Health.
  • General knowledge of typical and special needs clients.
  • Computer proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Dependable, consistent, and tactful.
  • Experience and interest in working with children.
  • Good hygiene; strong cologne, body and pet odor, cigarette smoke and fragrances may be offensive and interfere with cohesiveness of staff and clients.
  • Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds.
  • Ability to administer and write assessments/evaluations, treatment plans and progress notes in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Ability to work within a team and comply with supervisory direction.
  • Ability to accept corrective feedback, comply with supervisory direction, and show a solid history of seeking and completing required and optional training.
  • Acquire and maintain active title registration with Minnesota Department of Health (MDH).
  • Acquire and maintain active membership with National Board Certification of Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) or American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).

COTA Requirements

  • Candidates for the COTA position must have an Associate's Degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant and COTA/L Certification from NBCOT, as well as title licensure from Minnesota Department of Health.
