About the role

The Occupational Therapist II conducts evaluations on referred patients, plans and implements a comprehensive treatment program that includes discharge planning, patient/family education, and recommendations for follow-up or continued care. This role documents results of OT evaluations and services provided in accordance with hospital and department guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Participates as a member of a self-directed departmental team as well as an interdisciplinary patient care team
  • May provide clinical instruction to OT and OTA students as needed
  • May provide training and education to department and hospital staff
  • Cross-coverage to other treatment teams as needed
  • Saturday/holiday coverage on a rotating basis and flexibility in work hours as needed to accommodate departmental needs

Requirements

  • Licensed (or licensure eligible) by the Commonwealth of Virginia as an Occupational Therapist
  • Current license by the Commonwealth of Virginia as an Occupational Therapist (for continued employment)
  • Current CPR Certification if required by clinic or practice area
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Occupational Therapy
  • Minimum of 1 year of work experience as an Occupational Therapist

Qualifications

  • Previous experience with evaluations and interventions (physical and psycho-social) – preferred
  • Masters or Doctoral Degree from an accredited School of Occupational Therapy – preferred
  • Successful challenge of the VCUHS Occupational Therapy Clinical Ladder

  • Evaluation and treatment of patients with routine diagnoses
  • Setting schedule and managing time
  • Reporting in interdisciplinary rounds
  • Goal setting for routine diagnoses
  • Completion of routine documentation
  • Interaction with the interdisciplinary team and self-directed work team
  • Customer interaction

Supervisory responsibilities

Occupational Therapist provides supervision for Rehab Technician, COTA staff, volunteers and students doing clinical rotations.

Physical requirements

  • Lifting 50-100 lbs
  • Frequent bending, walking (distance), climbing (steps, ladder, other), reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive)
  • Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, speak clearly, write legibly, reading, logical thinking
  • Fast pace environment, steady pace, able to handle multiple priorities, frequent and intense customer interactions, noisy environment, able to adapt to frequent change
