Occupational Therapist-OT (PRN)

General Purpose

Under indirect supervision, provides rehabilitative and developmental therapy and support services for residents. Directs resident participation in selected tasks to restore, reinforce, and enhance performance; facilitates the learning of skills and functions essential for adaptation and productivity, diminish or correct pathology, and promote and maintain health.

Essential Job Functions

• Tests and evaluates residents for therapy and support needs
• assesses availability of in-clinic or on-site facilities, equipment, and/or services
• Plans, organizes, and conducts occupational therapy programs designed to help residents regain physical or mental functioning or to adjust to their disabilities
• Treats, educates, and counsels residents and families as appropriate regarding specific physical, mental, and/or developmental disabilities
• Monitors resident progress throughout treatment; prepares and maintains records and reports as appropriate, ensuring adherence to procedural safeguards and confidentiality requirements
• Participates in training medical and nursing personnel in occupational therapy techniques and objectives
• Conduct and document a thorough functional assessment of the resident, utilizing standardized procedures
• Assessment of home/vocational and equipment needs
• Protect residents from neglect, mistreatment, and abuse
• Supervise COTA(s) per state guidelines

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelors of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy
• Current license in state of practice
• Certification, if applicable, and demonstrated competency in identified areas of specialization
• Organized and detailed in work performance
• Good communication skills with excellent self-discipline and patience
• Genuine caring for and interest in elderly and disabled people in a nursing facility
