Responsibilities

  • Affirms patient condition, establishes goals, treatments and care plan in collaboration with patient/family/physician
  • Ensures appropriate treatment is performed in an interdisciplinary manner, consulting with physicians and other departments regarding rehabilitation factors
  • Documents findings, treatments, and other patient information in medical records
  • Complies with clinic policies related to infection control, safety, and regulations
  • Provides education on appropriate care and use of various therapies/exercises to patients and families
  • Serves as an information/education resource for patients, families, and staff
  • Performs hand and upper extremity therapy services, adhering to established protocols
  • Produces timely and accurate records/reports, including completion of all required clinical documentation consistent with professional standards and company policy
  • Utilizes support staff effectively and efficiently, maintaining availability for new patient evaluations and those requiring more extensive therapy
  • Delegates responsibilities and tasks to support staff as needed
  • Prepares and contributes to monthly staff meetings, discussing problems, offering suggestions/solutions, and providing strategies for improvements
  • Supervises and evaluates occupational therapy students during clinical affiliations according to established guidelines
  • Attends required meetings and in-services and covers outside events/programs as needed
  • Assists and instructs in-services as required
  • Maintains a clean and presentable clinic

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Current state license to practice occupational therapy
  • One to two years of hand therapy experience required
  • Current CPR certification
  • Knowledge of clinic policies/procedures/regulations, safety/infection control, and quality control requirements
  • Knowledge of how to use/maintain physical/occupational therapy equipment
  • Skills in appropriate evaluation and treatment of patients, and the ability to evaluate utilization and quality data and make necessary modifications in performance
  • Skills in using PT/OT equipment by consistently using devices appropriately to improve patient health status
  • Skills in effectively maintaining equipment, successfully completing competency testing
