Essential Responsibilities
- Improves or minimizes residual physical disabilities of the patient.
- Returns the individual to optimum and productive living within the patient’s capabilities.
- Provides prescribed occupational therapy.
- Directs and supervises personnel as required.
- Performs all skilled procedures.
- Consults with physicians regarding change in treatment and patient’s progress toward outcomes.
- Instructs patients/family members in home programs and fine motor movement exercises.
- An initial evaluation, including plan of care and goals, must be completed and submitted to the physician for approval.
- A recertification by physician every 60 days is necessary, if further treatment is to be continued.
- A progress note is written each visit.
- A reevaluation is written when expected duration of treatment is reached.
- A summary is written upon patient’s discharge.
- Helps develop the plan of care and revises as necessary.
Working Conditions
- Manual: significant manual skills/motor coordination & finger dexterity
- Occupational: significant occupational risk
- Physical Effort: Very Heavy effort. May exert up to 50 lbs. force
- Physical Environment: Some exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
