About the role
The Occupational Therapist leads the development, implementation, and coordination of the school district's occupational therapy program for students with disabilities or physical/mental impairments. This includes creating individualized programming, screening, evaluating, and monitoring students, collaborating with staff, and providing therapeutic intervention.
Responsibilities
- Develops, implements, and coordinates the school district's occupational therapy program.
- Screens, evaluates, and monitors students with disabilities or physical/mental impairments.
- Collaborates with staff to understand student occupational performance and outcomes.
- Evaluates students' abilities and formulates occupational profiles.
- Provides targeted, evidence-based therapeutic intervention.
- Assesses the need for assistive technology and equipment.
- Documents occupational therapy services and maintains records.
- Supervises Occupational Therapy Assistants.
- Plans, coordinates, and conducts continuing education for school staff, parents, and students.
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge through seminars, workshops, and research.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.
- Graduation from an accredited occupational therapy program recognized by NBCOT.
- State certification to practice as evidenced by current state licensure as an Occupational Therapist.
- Initial certification by the National Board for Certification of Occupational Therapy.
- Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
Qualifications
- Knowledge and use of occupational therapy theories, models of practice, principles, and evidence-based practice.
- Knowledge of human development throughout the life span.
- Knowledge of the influence of disabilities, socio-cultural, and socioeconomic factors.
- Knowledge of FERPA, Section 504, and other relevant laws and regulations.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective computer skills as needed for work.
- Ability to determine the need for an occupational therapy evaluation and select appropriate assessment tools.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
