About the role

Under the supervision of the Health and Safety Supervisor and in collaboration with other team members, the Occupational Health Nurse provides direct and indirect patient care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, professional standards of care, applicable state regulations, accreditation standards, and organizational policies and procedures. This position is based out of our Anoka location.

Schedule

  • Saturday and Sunday, 5:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • One additional shift from 6:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on either Friday or Monday
  • Availability to fill in for other Monday - Friday days as needed

Responsibilities

  • Provide prompt nursing assessment, treatment, and health-related counseling to ill/injured employees with detailed documentation of nursing care consistent with the Company's occupational health standards, maintaining confidentiality of employee health information and records.
  • Case management of workers compensation claims, including early return to work for both work-related and non-work-related absences.
  • Collection and processing of samples for drug and alcohol testing.
  • Perform post-offer pre-placement assessments.
  • Perform wellness-related activities as requested.
  • Participate with the Safety Department in accident investigations.
  • Perform audiometric and spirometry screens per regulatory compliance, on pre-hire and as requested by a physician.
  • Assist in coordination of MERT team and training.
  • Flexibility with work hours to cover other nurses’ vacations and/or illness.

Requirements

  • Current Minnesota Registered Nurse License in good standing without encumbrances.
  • Three years of clinic, primary care, urgent care, emergency room, or occupational health experience.
  • Basic computer skills—knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel.
  • CPR/AED certified.
  • Phlebotomy skills.

Skills

  • Ability to make independent nursing judgments.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with electronic medical records.
  • Certification in occupational health nursing (preferred).
  • Knowledge of Minnesota workers' compensation law.
  • Knowledge of OSHA record-keeping guidelines.
  • Knowledge of State & Federal statutes applicable to the Company.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to talk and hear.
  • Required to walk, stand, sit, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move 25 pounds and rarely 50+ pounds to assist employees.
  • Bending, stooping, and crouching occasionally to assist employees.
  • Finger dexterity for computer data entry.
  • Vision correctable to the extent that nursing care and assessment can be conducted and documented.
  • Ability to perform CPR.

Mental Requirements

  • Language skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, patients, customers, and the general public. Ability to recognize and protect confidential information.
  • Mathematical skills: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret medical data for patients. Ability to perform competently under pressure and work autonomously.

Equipment Used

  • Telephone, personal computer, AS/400 terminal, copy/fax/scan machine
  • BP cuff, stethoscope, eye lamp, Titmus vision tester, otoscope
  • Portable oxygen tanks, audiometer, and spirometer

Working Environment

  • May be subject to bloodborne pathogen exposure.
  • Time spent on the manufacturing floor creates limited exposure to noise, moving vehicles, explosive material hazards, and a variety of chemicals.
  • The noise level in the immediate work environment is generally quiet.
  • Minimal direct supervision.
  • Work assignments may include tasks with exposure to potentially hazardous areas, including flammables and explosives. Safety training is provided to ensure compliance with company and federal regulations.

Pay

Pay Range: $39.81 - $55.72 per hour. The actual annual salary offered will be based on variables including experience, geographic location, education, and skills/achievements, and will be mutually agreed upon at the time of offer.
