About the role

Occupational Health Nurse is responsible for providing preventative measures that ensure the health and safety of workers at Indorama Ventures Xylenes & PTA (IVXP). Working closely with employees and management, the nurse strives to ensure all health and safety standards are met to safeguard employee wellbeing. The role acts as an advocate for employees by ensuring access to preventative health and safety measures, maximizing productivity, and reducing disability claims, on-the-job injuries, and absenteeism.

Responsibilities

  • Provide medical services to employees, including evaluation, treatment, and case management of occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses.
  • Schedule, conduct, and follow up on federally regulated and IVXP-mandated physical exams.
  • Perform OSHA-required interim hearing tests, pulmonary function exams, respirator fit testing, and manage the IVXP Hearing Conservation Program and Respirator Program.
  • Conduct pre-employment, random, and follow-up drug and alcohol tests.
  • Responsible for medical approval of Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) absences and coordination with HR.
  • Interact with contract physicians and employees’ physicians to facilitate timely return-to-work for injuries and illnesses (case management).
  • Oversee immunization programs for expatriate employees, those on temporary foreign assignments, and voluntary immunization participants.
  • Manage Employee Health and Wellness program activities, including counseling and referrals to the Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
  • Responsible for Bloodborne Pathogen Program management, including training, immunization of first responders, and exposure follow-up procedures.
  • Provide oversight and audit of contractor medical programs to ensure compliance with contracted services.
  • Consult with the Leadership Team and supervisors on health and medical issues.
  • Conduct ergonomic evaluations and consultations.
  • Coordinate and participate in onsite CPR training as an American Heart Association BLS Instructor.
  • Perform administrative duties, including computer entry, maintenance of calibration/logbooks, and medical record upkeep.
  • Maintain and update the Occupational Health Nurse Protocol Manual and Medical Department Procedure Manual.
  • Negotiate and oversee contracts with outside providers of supplies and services.
  • Order and maintain proper medical supplies.
  • Ensure compliance with federal regulations such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), FMLA, and OSHA.
  • Evaluate and update the plant-specific Pandemic Response Plan, monitoring WHO and IVXP communications for changes.
  • Consult with the contract physician and IVXP Industrial Hygienist annually to evaluate medical examination components and job classifications.
  • Manage the site’s Worker Compensation program.
  • Maintain confidentiality and a clean, organized work area.
  • Attend meetings and training to maintain professional certifications.
  • Comply with all HSSE programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform special projects and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
  • Conduct new employee orientation regarding the onsite Occupational Health Program.
  • Manage the Wellness Committee, including the Fitness Reimbursement Plan.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
  • Occupational Health Nurse certification.
  • Five years’ experience in manufacturing.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Knowledgeable of Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
