About the role

The Occupational Health Manager develops, implements, manages, and oversees a comprehensive occupational health program designed to ensure the safety and well-being of university employees. This role involves program development, overseeing health surveillance, and ensuring compliance with relevant university policies, laws, and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and enforces occupational health and safety policies in accordance with relevant health and safety standards.
  • Conducts regular risk assessments to identify potential workplace hazards and exposures.
  • Oversees health surveillance and screening programs.
  • Manages contracts with external healthcare providers for occupational health services.
  • Advises university management on the impact of work practices, existing protective measures, and the overall workplace environment on employee health.
  • Provides education and training for Occupational Health programs.
  • Manages the budget for occupational health and evaluates the effectiveness of health programs.
  • PARTNERS WITH MANAGEMENT, ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY PERSONNEL TO ENSURE CONSISTENT APPLICATION OF OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY POLICIES.

Requirements

  • Thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent in-depth specialized training program directly related to the type of work being performed.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) License.
  • Preferred: Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN or COHN-S) or advanced credentials (e.g. Masters in Public Health).

Qualifications

The department is willing to accept education in lieu of experience and experience in lieu of education. Must have great communication and work cooperatively with personnel in diverse positions, including professors, researchers, lab technicians, engineering and operations/facilities maintenance personnel, and administrators to apply regulatory requirements or guidelines to the unique environment of the research or clinical laboratory.
