Responsibilities

  • Initiates the patient care process of assessment of the patient's functional status and needs.
  • Formulates a plan of care to meet the patient's needs, including documentation of realistic, measurable goals.
  • Implements the plan of care to meet the established goals within a reasonable time frame in accordance with established Hand Therapy modalities and procedures, with awareness of body mechanics and safety and infection control issues.
  • Affirms patient's progress relative to achievement of established goals and recognizes need to implement changes evidenced by documentation of patient's response to treatment.
  • Participates in discharge planning and continuing care through interaction with patient, family members, employer, and other members of the health care team as appropriate while actively participating in rounds or patient care team conference.
  • Promotes the patient's active involvement in treatment through patient education and instruction of specific treatment procedures for reinforcement of program, prevention of further injury and to facilitate “ownership” of health attitude.
  • Develops educational materials for distribution as indicated.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy required.
  • MA Occupational Therapist License (renewed every 2 years)
  • 3-5 years minimum work experience
