About the Role

The OCC Superintendent is responsible for the OCC Plant's safety performance, environmental performance, product quality, costs, equipment efficiency, and productivity. This position directs a system to optimize overall OCC pulping performance and collaborates with the Operations Maintenance Coordinator, process engineering, operator training programs, frontline shift supervisors, and union hourly employees.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and promote a safety culture at the floor level to achieve an injury-free workplace and implement safety efforts at the crew level.
  • Lead OCC Plant performance in productivity, uptime, quality, and improvement projects.
  • Implement processes to ensure proper operator rounds and logs are completed as expected.
  • Prepare and plan for outages, Lock Out/Tag Out, and lead execution strategies.
  • Serve as the floor-level lead in implementing a Continuous Improvement culture.
  • Lead the area reliability process and ensure timely completion of actionable items.
  • Drive capital improvements by determining needs, developing projects, and leading through the entire capital process.
  • Monitor and reduce costs (chemical, maintenance, operating supplies, etc.) and develop cost-reduction priorities.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Maintenance Coordinator on maintenance prioritization and schedules.
  • Work with vendors to optimize processes and costs.
  • Facilitate employee development to improve skills and asset performance.
  • Provide periodic weekend duty coverage as assigned.
  • Support the Reliability Team and attend required meetings.
  • Develop a positive, proactive, and energized workforce.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Pulp or Paper Mill Supervisory experience.
  • 10+ years of Operations Level Supervisory Experience preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Strong leadership and communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in computer skills.
  • Ability to respond to area issues after hours, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Position requires regular keyboarding, sitting, standing, walking, and occasional lifting of 25 lbs or more.
  • Work is performed in both office and paper mill operational areas, with exposure to environmental noises, hazards, and severe climate changes.
  • Use of proper personal protection equipment (safety shoes, vest, hard hat, gloves, hearing protection, safety glasses, respiratory protection) is required.

Leadership and Management

  • Close collaboration with engineering support, Operations Maintenance Coordinator, and Operations Crews.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws, including training, planning, assigning, and directing work.
  • Manage performance, mentoring, and disciplinary actions; resolve complaints and communicate issues to the supervisor.
  • Direct reporting responsibilities to the Pulp Mill Manager, including work assignments and compliance oversight.
  • Supervise contract employees on floor-level activities.
  • Manage operations within allocated performance metrics and budget.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $121,875 - $203,125.
