About the role
Lead the definition of OBD requirements related to generic scan tool access and behavior for Scout’s software-defined vehicle architecture.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain requirements for how external generic diagnostic tools interact with vehicle diagnostics, including readiness status, DTC readout, freeze frame data, monitor information, and service access behavior
- Define the expected behavior of the diagnostic system from the perspective of a generic scan tool user, ensuring consistency, transparency, and compliance across vehicle programs
- Act as the key interface between diagnostics, systems engineering, aftersales, service engineering, software development, and validation teams for all scan-tool-related requirements
- Ensure requirements are written in a clear, structured, and testable manner and are traceable from concept through implementation, validation, and release
- Align scan tool requirements with the new software architecture, including service-oriented communication paths, diagnostic gateways, central compute concepts, and domain responsibilities
- Support the definition of diagnostic data accessibility, naming conventions, response behavior, and robustness expectations for external service tools
- Work with test and validation teams to define acceptance criteria and test cases for scan tool compatibility, usability, and standardized diagnostic access
- Review software implementation concepts and diagnostic interface definitions to ensure external tool compatibility is maintained throughout development
- Support issue resolution by analyzing diagnostic traces, service logs, and tester interactions during prototype and serial development
- Partner with concept and architecture teams to build a future-proof and scalable diagnostic strategy for service and aftermarket interfaces
- Be involved in other related tasks / activities as required
Requirements
- Relevant degree such as a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Engineering, Technology, IT Systems, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or Engineering Technology from an accredited college or university, preferably in electrical engineering, automotive engineering, or computer engineering

- Experience authoring and managing OBD requirements for external diagnostic tool compatibility, including support for generic scan tools, service tool access, and standardized diagnostic communication
- Strong understanding of legislated and customer-relevant diagnostic behaviors related to DTC visibility, monitor status, freeze frame access, readiness information, and serviceability
- Experience defining requirements in a modern software-defined vehicle architecture, including clear ownership boundaries between platform software, domain software, and diagnostic managers
- Familiarity with UDS, OBD service mapping, standardized scan tool interactions, and external tester compatibility
- Hands-on experience with requirements engineering tools such as Jama, DOORS, Polarion, and with validation / trace tools such as CANoe, CANalyzer, INCA, or similar
- Experience collaborating with software, systems, diagnostics, validation, aftersales, and service engineering teams to create scalable and user-oriented diagnostic requirements
