Position: OB Tech
Location: Highland Park, IL
Full Time: 36 hours per week
Hours: Monday-Friday, 1900-0730 with weekend rotation
Float: Can float to medical/surgical units as a sitter/observer
What You Will Do
- Provides patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for women of childbearing age and their newborn.
- Performs surgical scrub role which includes performing any combination of tasks before, during and after surgery to assist the surgical team.
- Performs the duties of scrub technician providing the surgeon with correct instruments and equipment maintaining the integrity of the sterile field.
- Counts sponges and instruments during cases with circulating nurse and applies sterile dressing at completion of procedure.
- Collects specimens and delivers as necessary.
- Cleans operating room, instruments, equipment according to established procedures and restocks room for the next procedure on a timely basis.
- Disposes of hazardous medical wastes according to OSHA standards.
- Selects and prepares supplies, equipment, and instruments for surgical procedures.
- Aids patients with personal care needs such as bathing, use of bedpan, positioning, and answering call light.
- Performs procedures such as thermal applications, perineal care, emptying of foley bags, and bed making.
- Obtains, point of care testing, scaled weights, and reports obvious abnormalities to the appropriate RN.
- Transports medications that are not controlled substances.
What You Will Need
- Eligible to work in the US
- Preferred: CNA certification (Current certification on IDPH's health care worker registry) or completion of student nurse clinical rotation
- Preferred: Experience in surgery or OBA
- Preferred: CPR - American Heart Association (AHA)

About the Role
Functions under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. The OB Technician performs both clerical and nursing care duties within the Family Birthing Center. The OB Technician provides assistance during births, scrubs for c-sections and minor surgeries, performs secretarial duties in the Birth Center and functions as a Nursing Assistant. Floats between all units within the Family Birning Center.
Qualifications
- Eligible to work in the US
