OB Tech - Labor and Delivery

About the role

Provides support to the RN and the Physician in the care of obstetric patients. Performs OR procedures following department standards.

Responsibilities

• Recognizes and demonstrates knowledge to respond appropriately to obstetric emergencies.
• Works effectively and efficiently with the entire OB team through an emergency.
• Demonstrates the ability to prioritize, organize and plan for necessary equipment, supplies and instruments in a timely and efficient manner.
• Emphasizes family centered care based on the philosophy that the physical, social, psychological, spiritual, and economic needs of the family unit are integrated and considered collectively.
• Maintains the sterile environment during spontaneous vaginal deliveries (SVD) and cesarean section (C-section) births by performing excellent aseptic technique.
• Accurately enters physician's orders and charges into computer system.
• Retrieves data using appropriate computer system and accurately enters birth and fetal death certificate information.
• Communicates appropriate information to shift coordinator and/or nursing staff in a timely manner.
• Acts as a preceptor and mentor to train and orient others to the OB tech position.
• Performs non-clinical duties such as assembling, maintaining, and disassembling charts according to policy.
• Accepts delegation and works as a contributing team member.
• Coordinates all care and outcomes.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate
• Completion of OB Tech program
• Previous healthcare experience
• CPR/ AED/ BLS certification
