OB Surg Tech - Labor and Delivery, Days

Overview

Responsible for handling the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the obstetrical operations performed in the Operating Room located in the Labor and Delivery unit. He/she has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. He/she has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. Performs patient care duties under the direction of a registered nurse.

Responsibilities

• Handle the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during obstetrical operations in the Operating Room within the Labor and Delivery unit
• Understand the procedure being performed and anticipate the needs of the surgeon
• Ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure
• Maintain vigilance for maintenance of the sterile field
• Perform patient care duties under the direction of a registered nurse

Qualifications

Education

• H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) - Required

Work Experience

• Graduate from a Surgical Technologist training program - Required or
• 1 year previous operating room experience as a Surgical/Delivery Room Technologist - Required or
• 3 years of experience providing direct patient care in a clinical setting - Required

Licenses and Certifications

• BCLS - Basic Life Support - Upon Hire - Required
• NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation - Preferred
