About the role

The OB Scrub Technician is responsible for assisting the RN in the provision of quality patient care during the assigned shift. This role includes performing surgical scrub for obstetrical deliveries and other obstetrical emergencies, maintaining supplies in the LDRs and surgical suites, and other identified patient care tasks within the parameters of the job description. Additionally, this individual will perform clerical duties and may have additional duties assigned that are within the scope of the role.

The Coder is responsible for assigning diagnoses and procedure codes for the billing process and the statistical database. This individual will work with coding programs and appropriate resources to ensure all coding is based on complete and accurate documentation reflective of the patient's medical condition and severity. This position may also have additional duties assigned within the scope of the role.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the RN in delivering quality patient care.
  • Perform surgical scrub for obstetrical deliveries and emergencies.
  • Maintain supplies in LDRs and surgical suites.
  • Perform clerical duties as needed.
  • Assign accurate diagnoses and procedure codes for billing and statistical databases.
  • Ensure coding reflects complete and accurate patient documentation.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent required.
  • Certified Surgical Technician preferred.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.

Skills

  • Knowledge of body mechanics and basic safety principles of physical care and comfort.

Work Conditions / Physical Requirements

  • Position requires sitting for 15% of the workday and mobility for 85% of the workday.
  • Occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Frequent reaching, use of hands, and repetitive action.
  • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 250 pounds or greater.
  • Continuous need for speaking with clear diction and hearing sensitivity in conversation (phone or in person).
  • Continuous visual acuity at close and distant range.
  • Inside work protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
  • Minimal noise levels.
  • Much exposure to computer work.
  • Occasional exposure to risk of electrical shock.
  • Some exposure to infectious disease while performing job-related tasks.
  • Some exposure to hazardous chemicals.

Schedule

Full-time, third shift (nights).
