OB Hospitalist

The Opportunity

Fairbanks Memorial Hospital (FMH) recently launched an OB Hospitalist program to enhance obstetric care and build a stronger maternal safety net in Interior Alaska. With approximately 1,000 births annually, FMH serves as the only community hospital for more than 350 miles, providing crucial support to Alaska residents and nearby military installations.

Scope of Practice

• Support labor & delivery for patients who haven’t established care with a local obstetrician and for patients whose obstetrician is unavailable.
• Consultations as requested from the emergency department and inpatient services.
• Emergency and urgent surgery.
• No gynecology surgery call.
• Evaluate and manage high-risk obstetrics patients.
• Inpatient rounding and day-to-day management of admitted patients.

Compensation and Benefits

• $4,200 per 24-hour shift.
• $65k sign-on bonus.
• Full employee benefits, including medical, vision, dental, 401k.
• Part-time schedule: 6-10 in-house 24-hour shifts per month, depending on provider interest.
• Shifts are not scheduled back-to-back days.

• Three OB hospitalists currently on the team.
• Community OB/GYN providers.
• 24-hour in-house anesthesia.
• Adult and pediatric hospitalists.
• Patient psychiatric teams.
