About the Role

A key member of plant management staff, responsible for leading the O&M Technicians assigned to plant operations and maintenance. This role ensures plant production adheres to sound Safety, Environmental, and operating principles within the guidelines of the applicable Power Purchase and Operating Agreement.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the plant team and coordinates all outages to ensure minimum downtime and cost control.
  • Hires, trains, and supervises O&M Technicians using established employee selection techniques.
  • Schedules generation, forced outages, and scheduled outages with customers while maintaining positive working relationships.
  • Develops and administers the non-fuel cost of sales budget and assists in capital budget development.
  • Coordinates activities with contractor and vendor representatives.
  • Fosters a culture of superior Safety awareness and Environmental Stewardship through the implementation of Safety and Environmental Management Systems.
  • Develops, refines, and administers plant operating and maintenance procedures.
  • Collects, analyzes, and correlates performance data to improve plant performance, including managing plant heat rate.
  • Identifies plant problems and improvement projects, acting as Project Manager for approved initiatives.
  • Manages production within safe and legally permissible limits to meet or exceed daily gross margin budgets.
  • Establishes and maintains housekeeping standards.
  • Performs economic analysis and submits budget requests as directed.
  • Evaluates vendor proposals as required.
  • Directly supervises O&M Technicians and may serve on Safety, environmental, or other plant committees.
  • Performs administrative tasks such as creating monthly reports, NERC compliance reporting, and outage reports.
  • Manages contractors and plant staff during scheduled and forced outages.
  • Promotes teamwork between maintenance and operations departments.
  • Provides step-up leadership as required.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in engineering or related discipline; work experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug testing and background screens.
  • Minimum of five years’ supervisory experience in power generation or a comparable continuous process environment.
  • Experience with regulatory compliance in a continuous process environment.
  • Proficiency in computer hardware and applicable software.
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the position, including climbing ladders, stairs, and conducting comprehensive site inspections.

  • Basic math skills and strong verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency with power and precision tools.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and without direct supervision.
  • Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions in power plant operations and maintenance.
  • Strict adherence to safety practices and procedures.
  • Ability to respond to audio alarms and variations in sound.
  • Basic data entry and computer skills.
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Work Environment

  • Protective equipment (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection) must be worn for certain duties.
  • Work with hazardous materials may be required.
  • 12-hour shifts with weekend and holiday work as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions.
  • On-call status (day and night) may be required.
  • Work includes both indoor and outdoor environments.

Physical Abilities

  • Ability to work on feet for extensive periods, including stair and ladder climbing.
  • Routine lifting of up to 50 pounds; occasional lifting of more than 100 pounds.
  • Work in elevated areas, confined spaces, and extreme heat or cold conditions.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, climbing, and reaching.
  • Frequent standing, walking, talking, hearing, and high eye-hand coordination.
  • Occasional crawling and pulling/pushing up to 100 pounds.
  • Frequent use of sight acuity (near, far, depth, and color) and keyboarding.
