About the role

The NYU Teacher Residency is a comprehensive program designed to prepare talented individuals to become certified English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Special Education teachers. Participants earn a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) while gaining real-world classroom experience.

Responsibilities

  • Gain valuable classroom experience in middle or high schools
  • Study to become a certified teacher in Math, English, Science, Social Studies, or Special Education
  • Work alongside experienced mentor teachers
  • Receive regular feedback and coaching from NYU Steinhardt faculty
  • Participate in supportive learning communities with other residents and mentors

Qualifications

While no prior teaching experience or education coursework is required, applicants must have a strong academic foundation in the subject they wish to teach. The program supports those unsure about their eligibility to teach a subject.
