About the role
We are seeking an experienced NYMEX Natural Gas & Options Trader to join a dynamic energy trading team in Houston. This individual will be responsible for managing and growing a proprietary trading portfolio focused on NYMEX natural gas futures and options, identifying opportunities across the natural gas curve, and generating consistent risk-adjusted returns.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute directional, spread, volatility, and options-based trading strategies across NYMEX natural gas products.
- Analyze fundamental market drivers, including supply and demand balances, storage trends, weather patterns, LNG exports, pipeline flows, and power market dynamics.
- Identify and capitalize on opportunities in volatility, skew, term structure, and event-driven market dislocations.
- Manage portfolio risk and maintain positions within approved limits and risk parameters.
- Monitor market developments and adjust trading strategies to changing conditions.
- Collaborate closely with quantitative, analytics, research, and commercial teams to generate differentiated trade ideas.
- Maintain detailed reporting of positions, P&L, risk exposures, and strategy performance.
- Contribute to the enhancement of trading models, analytics, and market intelligence capabilities.
Qualifications
- 5-15 years of experience trading NYMEX natural gas futures and/or options.
- Demonstrated track record of generating profitable trading results and managing risk effectively.
- Deep knowledge of North American natural gas markets and key fundamental drivers.
- Strong understanding of options pricing, volatility analysis, Greeks, and derivatives risk management.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, performance-driven trading environment.
- Excellent analytical, quantitative, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency with industry trading and market data platforms such as CME Direct, ICE, Bloomberg, Enverus, or equivalent systems.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience trading across the forward natural gas curve and multiple option structures.
- Knowledge of physical natural gas markets, basis dynamics, and regional market fundamentals.
- Experience using Python, VBA, or other analytical tools to support trading decisions and strategy development.
- Advanced degree or professional certifications are a plus.
