About the role

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles to help deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers.

Responsibilities

  • Installation and configuration of routers, switches, and DWDM hardware
  • Troubleshoot fiber optic and copper cabling, network installations, and configuration
  • Coordinate colocation remote hands for new capacity installations and network issues
  • Resolve colocation facility issues
  • Identify, coordinate, and remediate outside plant (OSP) connectivity issues
  • Participate in small to mid-size projects creating or expanding colocation sites
  • Build relationships with remote facilities to ensure swift response times to events
  • Perform site audits to ensure safety and quality meet AWS standards
  • Improve operational processes within each site and/or cage
  • Update AWS tools and provide status updates to stakeholders via internal tools
  • Decommission cabling and network hardware in collaboration with partner teams

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
  • 2+ years of Linux troubleshooting (e.g., firmware flashes, BIOS configuration) or experience in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Networking Engineering)
  • 2+ years of data center, critical environment, computer hardware repair, infrastructure cabling, network deployment, or data center operations experience
  • Experience with fiber optic and copper cabling standards, testing equipment, and troubleshooting methodologies
  • Highly autonomous, detail-oriented, with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to solve complex problems and build relationships with internal/external teams
  • Passion for technology and a drive to excel in your role
  • Ability to lift and rack equipment up to 40 lbs, work in cramped or elevated spaces while adhering to safety guidelines
  • Up to 60% travel, including some international travel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in server technologies such as thermal, mechanical, power, and signal integrity
  • Knowledge of Linux or Unix systems administration
  • Bachelor's degree in an IT-related field (e.g., Computer Science, Network Engineering)
  • Experience with TCP/IP networking fundamentals and application of IP protocols (DNS, DHCP, NTP, SMTP, SNMP)
  • 4+ years of data center engineering or operations, or 2+ years of relevant discipline work experience

Pay

USA, NY, New York - $36.29 - $63.46 USD hourly
