Nutritionist
About the role
SPCC is seeking a dedicated WIC Nutritionist to conduct health and nutrition assessments for WIC applicants and participants, identify and document risk factors in accordance with program requirements, and provide individualized nutrition and health counseling tailored to participant needs. The role includes prescribing appropriate WIC food packages based on eligibility and preferences, connecting participants with relevant health and human service resources, and overseeing high-risk care.
Responsibilities
- Conduct all duties of CPA, Nutrition Assistant, and Program Support staff as needed.
- Develop and implement individual care plans (ICPs) and oversee high-risk care for all participants.
- Provide oversight and guidance to CPA and Nutrition Assistant staff.
- Coordinate nutrition education, including breastfeeding promotion and support, responsive to the needs of high-risk participants.
- Refer high-risk participants to other health-related and social services as necessary.
- Track high-risk participants’ progress in improving their health and document outcomes.
- Ensure the efficient flow of the assessment and education processes.
- Provide leadership in developing, conducting, and evaluating nutrition training for LA staff on nutrition education topics.
Requirements
- Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD/RDN).
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree in Nutrition from an accredited college or university.
- Strong assessment skills in health and general nutrition.
- Understanding of cultural sensitivity and demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations.
- Complete 12 hours of continuing education every year.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated commitment to humanity-centered care and delivering services within a trauma-informed and equitable lens.
