Essential Job Duties
- Performs a comprehensive nutrition assessment to determine eligibility for program benefits.
- Develops and documents an assessment and plan of care for all WIC participants based on the nutrition assessment.
- Provides nutrition education responsive to the identified needs and interests of participants.
- Prescribes the authorized supplemental foods based on nutrition needs and participant preferences.
- Refers participants as appropriate to other nutrition/health or social services agencies.
- Documents in the WIC computer system all eligibility data, nutrition risk, assessment and plan of care, nutrition education contacts, assigned food packages and appropriate referrals.
- Instructs participants on WIC Program rules, rights, and obligations.
- Conducts outreach activities to explain the purpose of the program to staff, participants, other health professionals, and the public.
- Acts as a resource person on topics concerning nutrition and health for other Norwescap programs and agencies in the community.
- Ensures compliance with all Federal Regulations, New Jersey Department of Health, and Norwescap policies and procedures.
- Completes other duties as assigned by the WIC Program Director or Senior Nutritionist.
Requirements
- Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation required.
- Bachelor of Science degree in an approved program in Nutritional Sciences or Nutrition & Dietetics with a DPD Verification Statement.
- One year experience in counseling for the needs of pregnancy, lactation, infancy, and early childhood is preferable.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (required).
Qualifications
The Nutritionist must have a Bachelor of Science degree in an approved program in Nutritional Sciences or Nutrition & Dietetics with a DPD Verification Statement. One year experience in counseling for the needs of pregnancy, lactation, infancy, and early childhood is preferable. Bilingual in English and Spanish is also required.
Skills
Knowledge of nutrition sciences, ability to conduct comprehensive assessments, strong communication skills, and proficiency in Spanish are essential.
