Nutrition Therapist I, II, III, IV

About the role

The Oklahoma State Department of Health seeks qualified candidates for Nutrition Therapist positions at various levels (I, II, III, IV). These roles provide nutrition and dietary expertise, conduct nutrition education classes, and provide individual nutrition counseling.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct and indirect nutrition education services.
• Evaluates and assesses the nutritional status and needs of patients/clients and develops individual care plans (ICP).
• Prepares and presents nutrition education information in individual/group settings.
• Keeps necessary records according to agency policy and procedures.
• Promotes a supportive work environment.
• Coordinates with health care providers and refers patients/clients to other health-related and social services, as necessary.
• Documents ICP, referrals, and follow-up to referrals appropriately.
• Provides nutrition in-service training to staff.
• Increases community awareness and positive perception of public health and nutrition.
• Performs related administrative functions.
• Supervises other nutritionists, reviews and assigns work, evaluates performance, approves leave, and initiates disciplinary actions.
• Coverage of essential nutrition services for assigned area when nutritionist position vacancies occur.
• Provides direction, technical guidance and supervision, or training to nutrition assistants.

Requirements

• Nutrition Therapist I: Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctoral degree in nutrition from an accredited college or university.
• Nutrition Therapist II: Registration as a dietitian or dietitian nutritionist (RD or RDN) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration, and licensure or provisional licensure with the Oklahoma State board of Medical Licensure and Supervision.
• Nutrition Therapist III: Registration as a dietitian or dietitian nutritionist (RD or RDN) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration and licensure with the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision plus two years of experience as a registered dietitian.
• Nutrition Therapist IV: Registration as a dietitian or dietitian nutritionist (RD or RDN) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration and licensure with the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision plus four years of experience as a registered dietitian.

• Skills to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

The annual salary for this position is up to $74,853.00, based on education and experience.
